Usporedbom prirasta bukve od 1986 – 2020 u odnosu na razdoblje od 1950-1985 utvrđen je značajan pad prirasta a za područje Hrvatske i preko 30%.

Predviđeni gubici produktivnosti šuma prema modelima klimatskih promjena najupečatljiviji su na južnoj granici geografske rasprostranjenosti bukve i to u regijama u kojima se očekuje da će stalni atmosferski sustavi visokog tlaka povećati pojavu suša. Predviđene promjene rasta u 21. stoljeću diljem Europe ukazuju na ozbiljne ekološke i ekonomske posljedice koje zahtijevaju hitnu prilagodbu šumarstva.
