1. BASICS OF WOOD KNOWLEDGE – first level of phytosanitary education

The program consists of 7 hours of teaching at the Faculty and 53 hours of independent work through literature study. The courses Basics of Wood Anatomy 1 and 2, Basics of Wood Technology 1 and 2, and Basics of Wood Chemistry are covered through the course. Upon completion of the program, applicants will gain broader knowledge about the anatomical structure of wood, the technical and technological characteristics, and basic knowledge about the chemical structure of wood. This will enable them to independently recognize and select the necessary types of wood, logs/sawdust of adequate quality, and to responsibly and independently prepare them to produce wooden packaging material intended for international transport, but also for other needs. The assessment of learning outcomes consists of a written exam from all three units (Basics of Anatomy – 20 questions; Wood Technology – 30 questions; Wood Chemistry – 10 questions). To pass the exam and complete the training program, participants must correctly answer more than 50% of the exam questions from each group. Candidates may also be invited to an oral exam. After completing the program, the candidate is issued a certificate of participation (for the completed program) and a certificate of completion of the program (for the completed program and the passed exams) and is awarded the title of Expert in Basics of Wood Knowledge.
