Total budget: 1.437.118,85 kuna

Project duration: 12.10.2018 - 12.10. 2021

The project is co-financed by the European Union as part of the Call for Internationalization of Higher Education from the European Social Fund (ESF), Operational Program " Efficient Human Resources 2014-2020.

SHORT DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The lack of study programs in a foreign language has been highlighted as a significant weakness of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology. Currently, only two courses are taught in English at all study levels at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, which is a major barrier for incoming student mobility. This project would improve the conditions for incoming students mobility, which is extremely low, and would allow our students to enroll in contemporary courses taught in English in an international environment, which represents a good preparation and encouragement for their outgoing mobility. Enrollment in courses taught in English at home institution is of particular importance for students from Croatia and the region who are unable to participate in international mobility programs, as this enables them to develop transversal skills and language competences in the "home" ground, making them more competitive and increases their employability.

In addition to the project's positive impact on student mobility, courses taught in foreign language, whose development and implementation will involve existing teaching staff, directly contribute to enhancing their personal competences and improving language skills, which continue to be a barrier to participate in international activities and mobility. This facilitates, directly and indirectly, the networking and communication of scientific-teaching staff with foreign higher education institutions, their international research activities, going to specializations and training abroad, and generally giving them the opportunity to strengthen international cooperation.

This project ultimately contributes to a better international competitiveness of our teachers, especially in applying for international projects, and to the overall reputation and scientific excellence of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology. Very low mobility of teaching staff and young researchers, unattractiveness of Faculty to teachers and researchers from other institutions, insufficient participation in international projects, and in general a small number of applications for projects of this kind were highlighted as identified weaknesses in the Strategy for Scientific Research Activities of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology 2014-2020. This project will contribute to addressing some of these identified problems and needs of our Faculty.

The aim of this project is to increase the offer of courses in English at the existing study programs of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology as a basic precondition for increased mobility of students and teaching staff and the internationalization of the Faculty „at home“.

The target groups of this project are students and teaching and non-teaching staff of higher education institutions.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To increase the number of courses in English at the existing graduate study programs of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, so-called "Internationalization at home" as a basic precondition for increased student and teaching staff mobility.
  2. strengthening the competences of teaching and non-teaching staff

The expected results of the project (increased number of courses in English, improved language competences of teachers and gained experience in teaching English) represent the first step towards offering complete study programs in foreign languages, which is one of the strategic goals of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology.
