By the letter of the law on the Students Union and other students organizations, on one hand even 6 members of the Student Union of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology take part in the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology and consequently play an active part in the life of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology.
On the other hand, Forestry Students’ Association represents a voluntary association of students and it has been active as such at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology for many years. Nowadays, you can participate through this association in the activities of several special sections, such as:
- Hunting section
- Informative section
- Sports section
Some of the remarkable Forestry Students’ Association projects were the workshops on nursery and the student exhibition “Šuma okom šumara” (“A Forest in the Eye of a Forester”).
Students Sport Association “Quercus” was founded in 2008 when it also became a full member of the University of Zagreb Sports Federation which organizes sports competitions at the University of Zagreb. The president of the federation is prof. Milan Oršanić, PhD, the secretary is Davor Pavlović, prof. As a member of the ZSSS (UZSF), SSA Quercus is entitled to compete at the competitions organized and conducted by the Federation. The members of the Student Sports Association of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, in accordance with the Statute of the Association, have the right to perform at university competitions and they regularly achieve many remarkable results at the University Sports Championship.
Urban Forestry Students’ Association was founded in 2015 with a view to promoting, popularizing and legally affirming the Studies of Urban Forestry, Nature and Environment Protection The association counts more than 100 members and it was founded with an idea of becoming a platform for connecting students to the profession. “Zagreb City Bike-Tour through Urban Forests” and the brochure „Urban Forestry for Beginners“ count among the projects of the Urban Forestry Students’ Association. The Association participates regularly on the International Flower Fair “Floraart”. They won the Best Detail Award in 2016 at the aforementioned fair by exhibiting the "Hotel for Insects", whereas in 2018 they won the Award for Technological Cooperation with their “GroWow” automatic irrigation system that ensures controlled watering of plants depending on the soil moisture that is previously measured by a hygrometer. On the final ceremony at the European Urban Forestry Forum that took place in Helsinki in May 2018, the president of the association, Matej Rupčić, was awarded the prize “European Young Urban Forester of the Year”.
