Cilj predmeta: Students are introduced to basic botanical and taxonomic terms that are the basis of other courses in higher years. In addition, they learn about the great diversity of the plant world, the principles and methods of determining plants, and the basic features of certain systematic groups. All this enables them to understand the functioning and role of plants in the ecosystems in which they will work after completing their studies.
Sadržaj predmeta: Lectures 1. Introduction. Historical development of systematics of plants. (1 hour). 2. Nomenclature and identification of plants. Keys. (3h) 3. Sources of taxonomic data and classification of plants. Herbarium of plants and herbarium collections. (3h) 4. Evolution and phylogeny of plants. Speciation. (3h) 5. Systematic distribution of plants. Basic features and phylogenetic relationships of embryophytes. Moss. (2h) 6. Basic characteristics and distribution of wormholes and ferns. Basic features and distribution of seed pods. (2h) 7. Gymnosperms - morphology, ontogenetic development, systematic division, overview of important families. (2h) 8. Angiosperms - morphology, ontogenetic development, systematic distribution. (2h) 9. Magnolianae - overview of important families. (1h) 10. Monocotyledons - overview of important families. (3h) 11. True dicotyledons - overview of important families. (6h) 12. Plant diversity of Croatia - main features, endemism, endangerment. (2h) Exercises 1. Collection and herbalization of plants. (2h) 2. Morphological characteristics of selected gymnosperm families. Determination with the help of keys. (3h) 3. Morphological characteristics of selected families of angiosperms - dicotyledons. Determination with the help of keys. (8h) 4. Morphological features of selected families of angiosperms - monocots. Determination with the help of keys. (2h) Field work 1. It is carried out in the lowland to hilly areas of continental Croatia, where the students collect herbarium material significant for a large number of thermophilic and mesophilic forest plant communities. (1 day, 8 hours) 2. It is carried out in the mountainous area of Croatia, where the students collect herbarium material important for a large number of forest plant communities. (1 day, 8 hours) 3. It is carried out in the mountainous and Mediterranean areas of Croatia, where the students collect herbarium material significant for a large number of mountainous, sub-Mediterranean and Mediterranean forest plant communities. (2 days, 16 h)
