Scientific Interests
Visual interpretation of aerial imagery (colour, infra-colour) in stereomodel (3D) and imagery with unmanned aerial vehicles with the focus on identifying tree species and determining the health status of individual trees
Measuring photo-interpretation (tree height measurement, measurement of the crown projection area, constitution, stumpage, etc.)
Digital interpretation of multi-spectral and hyper-spectral satellite imagery (supervised and unsupervised classification), and imagery of high spatial and temporal resolution (IKONOS, Quick Bird, WorldView), for monitoring the state, modifications and biodiversity of forests; the land use mapping; biotope mapping of urban and wetland habitats, etc.
Possibilities of applying LiDAR in forestry
Application of thermal imaging in forestry
Other areas of interest include:
Application of neural networks in detecting forest damage
Tracking wild animals location and activities by using telemetry methods
Development of the Digital Relief Model (DMR), of the Digital Ortophoto (DOF) for environmental modelling (raster-GIS analysis, spatio-temporal analysis, geostatistics)
